The cozy surroundings behind the evangelical church, the Christmas-lit old town, and the elegant, formerly grand bourgeois Retzer estate of the city of Freisneheim transform themselves every year on all four Advent weekends, from Friday to Sunday, into a romantic Christmas market away from the hustle and bustle..

In the picturesque alleys of the city, you can also find charmingly decorated shops that surely have some Christmas gifts ready. And for those who don't find what they're looking for here, they can continue their stroll along the small half-timbered huts, which are festively decorated around the evangelical church and Herrenstraße. Pure romance is also promised by the festively illuminated Retzerpark. Fans of arts and crafts and culinary delights will also find plenty to enjoy there. The historical interiors of the Kelterhaus and Remise are also involved in the festivities and exude their own Christmas atmosphere.

When visiting the traditional Christmas market, it's also worth taking a walk along the city's former defensive fortifications. The Freinsheimer fortifications are still largely preserved today and are considered a special attraction of the city. The city fortifications, built in the second half of the 14th century, with their numerous picturesque corners, some of which are beautifully presented by the residents, can still be explored today on the approximately one-kilometer-long city wall walk. At least 20 towers have been identified. Some tower remnants are still hidden in houses, cellars, garden walls, and barns today.
