Damascus with about 1.5 million inhabitants is the capital of Syria and one of the oldest cities worldwide. The city lays between the mountain Jebel Qassyun and the green area of the Ghuta, very close to the desert. The old town and new city are separated through the River Barada. You find one of the most famous arabic market halls, Suq el-Hamidiye, at the western access to the old town. In the eastern part of the city, Damascus International Fairground is located, one of the biggest fairgrounds worldwide. There are altogether 1.2 million sqm of exhibition area for use. Moreover, a new exhibition place offers further 6,300 sqm in the hall and 15,000 sqm on an outside area. A Business centre also belongs to the complex. When you come by car to Damascus International Fairground, you will find a parking place round the complex comprising 11,000 sqm. Damascus, situated at the southeastern end of Syria, is within reach via motorway 5 or 7. An international airport also belongs to the city.
