The Leipzig Book Fair is the most important spring gathering for the book and media industry and has developed into a trade fair with nationwide and European appeal. The aim of the traditional book fair is to create more public awareness for books. It was first established in 1632 and has since become an significant platform for the publishing industry. The fair is organized by Leipziger Messe GmbH, one of the oldest and most prestigious trade fair organizers in Germany.

The venue for the fair is the modern Leipzig Exhibition Grounds, which cover an area of 111,900 square meters and offer excellent transport connections and infrastructure. The Leipzig Book Fair attracts around 2,500 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and over 200,000 visitors each year, including publishers, authors, booksellers, journalists, and literature enthusiasts. The fair covers all areas of the publishing industry, from fiction and non-fiction to children's and young adult books, scientific publications, and specialist literature. Particular emphasis is placed on promoting young authors and connecting publishers, authors, and readers. Highlights of the Leipzig Book Fair include the presentation of the prestigious Leipzig Book Fair Prize, awarded in the categories of fiction, non-fiction/essays, and translation, as well as the reading festival "Leipzig Reads", which is considered Europe's largest reading festival and takes place at various venues throughout the city of Leipzig.
