Rapid.Tech 2013: New Spheres open up at the Aviation Expert Forum

,

Erfurt, March 2013: On the 14. and 15. May 2013, newcomers and experts are meeting for the 10th time at Erfurt Rapid.Tech in order to learn about and discuss the newest results, trends and possibilities of Generative Manufacturing. For the Jubilee Exhibition the organisers expect around 60 exhibitors, over 400 congress attendees and more than 650 trade fair visitors. The close interconnection between expert-led lectures and exhibition presentations focusses, during the two day expert forum, on applications of Generative Manufacturing in both aviation and space travel.

Since 2004 Rapid.Tech has developed into a leading venue for the rapidly developing cross-sector technology Additive Manufacturing (AM). “Especially in the aviation and space travel industries, Generative Manufacturing can contribute to innovative developments. In addition there are examples of lighter building parts with greater functionality and economic application through construction designed to be resistant”, explains Dr. Eric Klemp, Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) at the University of Paderborn and Manager of the Aviation Expert Forum. Professor Claus Emmelmann from the North Laser Center introduces recent trends and developments in Additive Manufacturing in aviation in his key-note speech. New approaches will also be presented in Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) Technologies and Selective Laser Melting (SLM). Other lectures during the two day forum concentrate, among other things, on the production of tools such as cost efficient aviation components by means of Generative Manufacturing. Klas Boivie (Sintef) describes by means of a case study, the principles and verification of a hybrid production process for demanding applications in aviation. Reports about future orientated research strategies for AM, for example for the repair of aeroplanes are also in the program. “Moon Rovers Asimov – innovation with the help of 3D-Manufacturing” under this title Robert Boehme (Part-Time-Scientists) explains which roles Generative Manufacture could play in the production of the next generation of space travel vehicles. Also to be highlighted is the future scenario of the 3D-manufacture of building parts using Regolith on the moon.

Rapid.Tech 2013 – all aspects of Additive Manufacturing
Next to the Expert Aviation Forum at Rapid.Tech 2013 there are also Medicine and Dental Technology Forums, a user-based conference, the Designer Day and the forum of the Fraunhofer-Alliance for Generative Manufacture. “Additive Manufacturing has left the arena of being purely a developmental tool behind it. Generative Manufacture will be used more often and in more industries as a manufacturing tool“, reports Professor Andreas Gebhardt, expert advisor of Rapid.Tech. Accordingly the congress exhibition focusses not only on the technological aspects of Additive Manufacturing. Themed at this year’s exhibition are also aspects such as reproducibility, monitoring and safety of the build quality as well as legal issues.

FabCon 3.D: The Platform for Fabber, Maker and 3D-Printers
Parallel to the Rapid.Tech on the 14. and 15. May 2013 the FabCon 3.D will also be premiering at the Erfurt exhibition centre. The convention will provide the up-to-date hype about “Fabbers”, “Makers” and 3D-Printers with an appropriate platform in the German language room. The visitors can expect, alongside a creative workshop and a lecture program a comprehensive exhibition, as well as an evening get-together. Around 25 exhibitors – from commercial 3D-Printer manufacturers to the operation of hacker spaces – will present the most recent trends and achievements in this billion dollar market.
