The Affordable Art Fair New York is an internationally recognized public art fair for contemporary art, distinguished by its unique combination of affordability, diversity, and accessibility. Held twice a year – in spring and fall – it appeals to a wide audience: from curious first-time buyers and seasoned collectors to families looking for an inspiring day out. Organized by Ramsay Fairs Ltd., a UK-based company that launched the fair in London in 1999, the event has since successfully expanded to cities including Amsterdam, London, Melbourne, and Stockholm.
The goal of the Affordable Art Fair New York is to make art accessible to everyone – in both a literal and figurative sense. With transparent pricing between $100 and $12,000, and most works priced under $7,500, the fair intentionally lowers barriers to entry. It creates an inviting environment where visitors are encouraged to discover, ask questions, and purchase art. This clarity in pricing, combined with an open and welcoming atmosphere, makes the fair especially appealing to those who have long dreamed of starting their own art collection.
Thousands of original artworks are showcased across a wide range of media including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art. Over 400 established and emerging artists, along with national and international galleries, present their work. A highlight is the "Emerging Artists" section, which allows visitors to discover and support up-and-coming talent at an early stage. Curated areas such as "Spotlight", "Young Talent", and the large-scale "Special Projects" provide additional space for new artistic perspectives, experimentation, and immersive installations.
Another key aspect of the fair is its focus on education and personalized guidance. In a deliberately relaxed setting, visitors can attend tours, artist talks, and panel discussions on topics like "Collecting Art for Beginners". Knowledgeable and approachable staff – including many gallerists – are available to answer questions, offer background insights, and assist with selecting the right artwork. Particularly helpful are the Art Placer consultations, where visitors can digitally visualize how a piece of art would look in their own home.
The venue is the Starrett-Lehigh Building, a historic landmark in Manhattan’s West Chelsea neighborhood. Its central location in one of the world’s leading art capitals, along with excellent public transport connections, ensures easy access. Previous editions of the fair were held at the renowned Metropolitan Pavilion, which remains an important part of its history in New York.
The Affordable Art Fair New York represents a new kind of art fair – one that not only showcases art, but also democratizes it, opens up new perspectives, and fosters dialogue between artists, galleries, and the public. By combining artistic quality with fair prices and low-threshold access, it has become a unique event on the global art scene – and a permanent fixture in the city’s cultural calendar.
The first day of the trade fair is usually reserved for trade visitors and journalists. The Affordable Art Fair will take place on 5 days from Wednesday, 17. September to Sunday, 21. September 2025 in New York City.
