BIOFACH JAPAN is Japan’s leading trade fair for organic products and natural goods. Held annually, it was launched in 2001 as part of the global BIOFACH exhibition network. The event is organized by NürnbergMesse GmbH, one of the world’s most prominent trade fair companies in the field of organic products. It targets trade professionals from retail, import, gastronomy, and procurement, as well as quality- and environmentally-conscious consumers.
More than just a trading platform, BIOFACH JAPAN offers a holistic experience with strong market relevance. The venue – Tokyo Big Sight, a modern exhibition center and iconic landmark of the city – provides the perfect setting for an event that combines innovation, authenticity, and international diversity. Visitors have the opportunity to explore Japan’s regional organic culture while helping raise awareness of ecological products in the country.
At the heart of the exhibition is a wide range of certified organic foods and natural goods. These include Japanese specialties such as matcha, miso paste, shoyu, and seaweed, as well as international products like olive oil, wine, cheese, spices, coffee, and functional organic items with added health benefits. Fresh produce – including fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, plant-based alternatives, and dairy products – is also presented in top organic quality. The range is rounded out by natural cosmetics, eco-friendly textiles, biodegradable household products, and organic fertilizers – all with a consistent focus on sustainability and resource conservation.
A distinctive feature of BIOFACH JAPAN is its in-depth engagement with the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS). International producers receive targeted support to meet the strict requirements for market approval in Japan. Expert consultations, networking opportunities with JAS specialists, and discussions on the recognition of international certifications offer practical guidance for entering a market where organic consumption is growing significantly. According to recent studies, over a third of consumers in Japan regularly purchase organic products.
The fair also places strong emphasis on sustainability and corporate responsibility. It serves as a platform for forward-thinking solutions – from climate-neutral supply chains and compostable packaging to the integration of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into corporate strategies. In doing so, it drives sustainable development across the organic sector.
A diverse program of conferences and seminars enhances the trade fair experience. Topics include market trends, consumer behavior, regulatory developments, and technological innovations. Pioneering subjects such as plant-based nutrition, cellular agriculture, food tech, and new distribution models – from e-commerce to direct-to-consumer sales – are also explored.
BIOFACH JAPAN is far more than just a trade fair. It is a key meeting point for knowledge exchange, commerce, innovation, and sustainability – the ideal platform for anyone looking to recognize, shape, and tap into the potential of the Japanese organic market.
The BIOFACH JAPAN takes place annually, and therefore for the twentieth time previsibly in September 2026 in Tokyo.
