Every year since 1946, the international film festivals "Festival de Cannes" takes place in mid-May in the fashionable seaside resort of Cannes at the Côte d 'Azur. The film festivals are held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, right at the marina below the old town. Especially worth seeing is the crowd of the film celebrities on the red carpet at this time. Several thousand accredited journalists report on the event. On these 12 days, the population of Cannes, the navel of the film industry and the cinema world, often triples. A variety of films will be presented, the opening film and closing film of which are particularly worth mentioning. A jury of professionals from the film industry, gathered each year, honors the winners, with the most important prize being the Golden Palm (Palme d 'Or). Of particular note from the recent past of the film festival is certainly the éclat of the Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier at the official press conference in 2011 or the robbery of a piece of jewellery studded with diamonds worth over 100 million euros from the Carlton Hotel during the 66th film festival in 2013.
