The Bad Birnbach Christmas Market, a traditional festival held annually on the first weekend of Advent, enchants visitors with its unique charm. Located on the marketplace of Bad Birnbach, the market stalls spread out extensively, offering a picturesque scene further enriched by the historical buildings surrounding the square.
The heart of this Christmas market is its unique atmosphere, created by numerous small stands enticing with a variety of Christmas ideas. Here one can find everything their heart desires – from festive decorations for the Christmas tree to lovingly selected gifts for the whole family.
A special feature of the market is its culinary diversity. Traditional delicacies and drinks provide for the physical well-being, including hot spiced cider, children's punch, the original Bad Birnbach fruit bread, honey specialties, and deer liver cheese. These specialties guarantee an unforgettable taste experience.
The Bad Birnbach Christmas Market is worth visiting not only for its unique atmosphere and culinary offerings but also for its location in the Lower Bavarian spa triangle. Bad Birnbach is known, among other things, for its thermal bath, the Rottal Terme. The history as a thermal bath began in 1939. At that time, the Bavarian Mineral Oil Industry AG drilled for oil near Birnbach. However, instead of oil, they found thermal water. By order of the Reich government, the drilling had to be filled in. Only in 1973 was drilling for thermal water resumed, and in September at a depth of 1700 meters, a thermal spring was discovered. The foundation stone for the spa, which is still in use today, was laid in 1974.
In conclusion, the Bad Birnbach Christmas Market is a place where traditional craftsmanship, regional specialties, and the warm atmosphere of a Bavarian Christmas market come together. It offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy the pre-Christmas season in a historical and cozy ambiance.
