The Grimmen Christmas Market is a festive event that traditionally takes place on the last weekend of November each year, held in the historic market square of the city. The market is organized by the city administration of Grimmen.
Surrounded by impressive buildings such as the St. Mary's Church and the Gothic town hall, the market square provides a picturesque setting for the festival. Over 50 traders and craftsmen display their products, ranging from Christmas decorations, candles, and wreaths to handicrafts and culinary delights.
Visitors can look forward to a colorful cultural program presented on the stage at the market square, as well as a Christmas bakery, an arts and crafts market, and a Christmas café in the cultural house. The stalls, rides, and the gastronomic mile lend a festive atmosphere to the historic market square.
Traditional delicacies like Mutzen, crêpes, cotton candy, and Christmas treats, as well as hearty dishes like kettle goulash, stew, and bratwurst, are available along with popular winter drinks like mulled wine, mead, and grog.
Besides the market itself, Grimmen offers a historic old town with its grid-like street network and an oval city layout. Attractions include the Stralsund Gate, the Mill Gate, and the Greifswald Gate, which are part of the still-existing medieval fortifications.
The Grimmen Christmas Market is not just a place for shopping and enjoyment but also a cultural experience that reflects the history and heritage of the city. A visit promises an unforgettable experience in one of the most picturesque towns in Germany.
