Kiel is the starting point for yearly around 100 cruise liners with up to 300,000 passengers. The Cruise Terminal Ostseekai is located in the north of the main station. The Ostseekai is signposted from all main streets and is reachable within minutes by foot from the main station and the city centre. The new cruise terminal, costing about 28 million Euro, was opened in 2007. It provides two berths with lengths of 360 and 285 metres and a continuous water depth of 10 metres. Due to the glass façade, it ihas become an architectural highlight of Kiel. The ground floor (2,400 sqm) offers place for 2,500 guests. The upper floor (2,150 sqm) has a capacity of 1,500 persons. For security reasons, the maximum of visitors with 2,500 persons is not to be exceeded. Both areas can be individually rented.
