The Green Design Show (GDS) is Australia’s leading trade fair for sustainable interior and furniture design. Held annually in spring at the renowned Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), the event is organised by Informa PLC, a globally active provider of exhibitions and knowledge-based services.
The GDS brings together designers, architects, planners, manufacturers, and key decision-makers from the furniture, construction, and interior architecture industries to explore and advance the shift toward circular and responsible design. Far more than a conventional exhibition, the show is a curated platform for forward-thinking ideas. Shaped by the principles of Circular Design Thinking, inspired by the four natural elements, and committed to strict transparency standards, the GDS offers hands-on content with a strong emphasis on real-world applicability.
Core themes include circular economy practices, environmentally conscious stand design, sustainable material selection, and modular, deconstructable solutions for spaces and temporary architecture. A highlight of the show is the Green Design Hub, which serves as a central showcase for material innovation. Here, visitors can experience bio-based materials, recycled systems, and visionary product developments up close.
The exhibition is complemented by a diverse program of panels, workshops, and keynote presentations developed in collaboration with the Green Building Council Australia. These sessions address emerging regulatory requirements, strategies for avoiding greenwashing, and effective ways to embed sustainability principles in design and construction practices.
A defining feature of the GDS is its focus on “design with intention.” Every product, concept, and exhibition stand is rigorously evaluated for its ecological innovation. This consistent quality benchmark is what sets the GDS apart. Exhibitors range from start-ups in bio-based materials and established furniture manufacturers to interior design studios, universities, lifecycle analysis software providers, and ESG consulting firms.
The Green Design Show targets architects, interior designers, project developers, real estate professionals, public sector buyers, and sustainability officers – professionals seeking forward-looking, environmentally responsible solutions for the built environment.
As a venue, the MCEC offers ideal conditions with its central location on the Yarra River, excellent public transport links, and Green Star certification as a sustainable convention centre. It provides both a practical and symbolic setting for a trade fair that demonstrates how design can be not only beautiful but also responsible, impactful, and fit for the future.
The Green Design Sow will take place on 3 days from Wednesday, 16. July to Friday, 18. July 2025 in Melbourne.
