Founded in 1976, HAM RADIO in Friedrichshafen is regarded as Europe’s largest and most significant amateur radio exhibition. Organized by Messe Friedrichshafen GmbH, it opens its doors every June to both industry professionals and the general public. This year, under the theme “Remote Radio – Connecting the World”, the focus is on remotely operated amateur radio stations controlled via the internet from anywhere in the world.
Located in a region renowned for its aerospace heritage, Messe Friedrichshafen offers excellent infrastructure and is easily accessible by car or public transport. The surrounding Lake Constance area provides visitors with a wide range of accommodation options and leisure activities, adding to the event's appeal.
One of the highlights of HAM RADIO is Europe’s largest radio flea market—a treasure trove for rare electronic components, used radio equipment, and accessories. The diverse program also covers topics such as modern amateur radio technologies, digital communication modes (DMR, D-STAR, C4FM, FT8), software-defined radio (SDR), emergency communication and disaster response, as well as cooperation with public services like the BOS (authorities and organizations with security tasks), THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief), and DRK (German Red Cross).
In addition to showcasing technical innovations and demonstrations, the event places strong emphasis on training and licensing new amateur radio operators. It offers courses, workshops, and lectures on current licensing regulations and actively supports young talents entering the field. DXpeditions, international radio contacts, and contests (Contesting) are also central features, complemented by meetups with amateur radio enthusiasts from around the globe.
Science and experimentation play a key role as well, including satellite projects (AMSAT, QO-100, CubeSats), research on radio wave propagation, and communication with space stations such as the ISS. Hobbyists and inventors will also find inspiration in DIY projects, microcontroller applications, and 3D printing for custom-built radio technology.
Overall, HAM RADIO Friedrichshafen stands out through its unique blend of technical and scientific exchange, international networking, and hands-on demonstrations. It is a meeting place for seasoned radio amateurs and curious young people alike, offering access to a dynamic and fascinating world.
The HAM Radio will take place on 3 days from Friday, 27. June to Sunday, 29. June 2025 in Friedrichshafen.
