The German Historical Museum is located between the Alexanderplatz and the Tiergarten in the centre of Berlin. The museum is surrounded by the city train stations Unter den Linden, Berlin-Friedrichstraße and Alexanderplatz and the underground stations Unter den Linden und Französische Straße are nearby. Since 2003 the adjoining Zeughaus is again in use by the Museum, presenting the permanent exhibition „German History in Documents and Images“ since 2006. Furthermore, temporary exhibitions within the Zeughaus or the new extension are offered. The underground passage between the buildings and the glass-and-steel-roofed Schlüterhof are an important component of the complex. The total size of the area is 4,700 sqm including 2,600 sqm exhibition space. The architecturally appealing, glass-roofed courtyard has a size of 1,600 sqm. Additionally, workshops, depots, the museum shop, and a lecture hall with 57 places are at the disposal.
