The International Freiberg Mineral Show is an annual public exhibition and one of the most significant events of its kind in Germany. It takes place in the Heubner Sports Hall in Freiberg, Saxony – a modern, easily accessible venue offering more than 300 linear meters of exhibition space, providing ideal conditions for collectors, traders, and geology enthusiasts. The event is organized by the Geological Society of Freiberg e.V., a long-standing association dedicated to promoting geoscientific education and facilitating exchange on minerals and fossils.
The show is particularly defined by its strong connection to the geological heritage of the region. Freiberg is located in the Ore Mountains, a historic mining center in Europe. The extraction of silver and other minerals from the surrounding area not only contributed to the city’s economic rise but also established it as a key hub for scientific research. Freiberg is home to the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology – the oldest university of mining sciences in the world – whose international reputation further enhances the show’s significance.
The International Freiberg Mineral Show is much more than a marketplace. It offers a specialized range of exhibits, including raw minerals and fossils, gemstones and jewelry, scientific literature, and high-quality collecting supplies. Exhibitors from both Germany and abroad showcase rare and valuable specimens to a diverse audience of collectors, researchers, students, and curious visitors. At the same time, the show serves as a platform for education and the exchange of knowledge, offering numerous opportunities for professional dialogue, expert consultations, and insights into current research.
A highlight of this year’s event is the special exhibition "Mineral Treasures from Thuringia". This display explores the mineralogical diversity of the neighboring region, featuring, among others, borates from the Kohnstein, manganite from Ilfeld, baryte from Schmiedefeld, and fluorite and antimony ores from eastern Thuringia. Scientifically curated and visually engaging, the exhibition offers both experts and interested visitors a deeper understanding of Central Germany’s mineral wealth.
A particular focus of the organizers is to support the next generation of scientists. The show actively targets young people with an interest in geology and paleontology. Interactive information booths, specially designed programs, and direct contact with professionals provide hands-on access to the world of geosciences.
The International Freiberg Mineral Show uniquely combines scientific rigor, regional identity, and international diversity – transforming Freiberg into the center of the mineral world once a year.
The International Freiberg Mineral Show takes place annually, and therefore for the 77th time previsibly in May 2026 in Freiberg.
