The International Paris Air Show, officially known as the Salon International de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace, is considered the world’s most important trade fair for aerospace. Since its inception in 1909, with the first edition held at the Grand Palais in Paris, it has become a key event for showcasing technological innovation and industry milestones. Today, it takes place every two years—always in odd-numbered years—at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Le Bourget, a historically significant and well-connected venue in northern Paris.
The event is organized by SIAE (Salon International de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace), a subsidiary of the French aerospace industry association GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales). Benefiting from the strength of one of Europe’s leading aerospace industries, the show serves as a global platform for trade professionals from around the world.
From Monday to Thursday, the show is open exclusively to industry professionals, while on the weekend it welcomes the general public. Covering the entire aerospace value chain, it offers comprehensive insights into the latest developments in the sector.
The spotlight is on future-oriented themes such as electric and hybrid propulsion systems, sustainable technologies, and digital innovation. Advances in lightweight construction, the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), concepts for zero-emission flight, and developments in hydrogen technology underscore the growing importance of environmental and climate protection. Space exploration is also a central focus, ranging from satellite communication and Earth observation to ambitious missions aimed at the Moon and Mars.
The defense and security sector features modern military aircraft, unmanned aerial systems, and cybersecurity solutions. Artificial intelligence, autonomous flight, and urban air mobility highlight the industry's digital transformation. In civil aviation, innovations in cabin design, passenger comfort, and air traffic management are setting new standards.
Particular attention is given to the Paris Air Lab, which is dedicated to sustainable technologies of the future, and the Start-Me-Up program, where emerging startups present their ideas to an international audience. The Rocketry Challenge supports young talent and gives aspiring professionals a prominent stage for their innovative projects. Spectacular flight demonstrations by manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, and Dassault add excitement to the event, captivating both industry experts and the general public.
With its unique combination of technological depth, international collaboration, and forward-looking perspective, the International Paris Air Show is far more than a trade fair—it is the global showcase for the aerospace industry of today and tomorrow.
On the whole the organisers welcomed on the 7 days of the fair, from 17. June to 23. June 2019, about 2453 exhibitors and 316470 visitors on the International Paris Air Show in Le Bourget.
The International Paris Air Show takes place biennially, and therefore for the 56th time previsibly in June 2027 in Le Bourget.
