LIGNA Hanover

LIGNA is the world’s leading trade fair for the forestry and wood industries, as well as for wood processing and woodworking. Its name is derived from the Latin word lignum, meaning “wood”, underscoring the event’s clear focus on the sector. Since its founding in 1975, LIGNA has developed into a central meeting point for the industry. It takes place every two years at the Hannover Exhibition Center – one of the largest and most modern exhibition venues in the world, covering around one million square meters.

The event is organized by Deutsche Messe AG in cooperation with the Woodworking Machinery Association within the VDMA. This partnership ensures a high-quality, professionally organized platform tailored to the needs of industry professionals.

Innovation, efficiency, and sustainability are at the heart of the event. The fair covers the entire spectrum of the sector – from forestry and sawmill technology to solid wood processing, furniture manufacturing, woodworking, and the production of wood-based materials and veneers. Particularly noteworthy are the hands-on live demonstrations of cutting-edge machines and systems, which bring technological advancements to life.

Themed areas provide focused insight: LIGNA.CONNECTIVITY explores digital networking across the value chain – a key factor for the industry’s future. LIGNA.SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION highlights resource-efficient, environmentally friendly production methods, while LIGNA.ENGINEERED WOOD showcases the potential of engineered wood products for sustainable construction. The program is complemented by forward-looking formats such as LIGNA.Circular, which addresses circular economy approaches in the wood industry, and LIGNA.TruckStop – an interactive platform featuring live demos and networking opportunities for tradespeople.
