MASS ARTESANÍA is a long-established arts and crafts fair held each year during Semana Santa in the historic centre of Lorca. The event takes place in Plaza Calderón de la Barca, a prominent square in the heart of the city that becomes a vibrant focal point for culture, tourism and traditional craftsmanship throughout Holy Week.
The fair is organised by the Cámara Oficial de Comercio e Industria de Lorca, a regionally rooted institution committed to supporting the local economy, small and medium-sized enterprises and the preservation of traditional crafts. Through MASS ARTESANÍA, the Chamber of Commerce provides a professional platform where artisans can not only sell their work, but also showcase their techniques, creative processes and craft heritage.
At its core, the fair features authentic, handcrafted products made from materials such as clay and ceramics, wood, glass, leather, metal, textiles and plant fibres. Visitors can discover wheel-thrown ceramics, handmade jewellery, leather goods, decorative wooden pieces, glasswork, embroidery and one-of-a-kind textile creations—largely produced in limited quantities and distinguished by their clearly identifiable artisanal character. The event therefore serves not merely as a retail marketplace, but as a showcase for traditional production techniques passed down through generations.
Exhibitors primarily represent the fields of arts and crafts and contemporary craft design, including ceramics, textiles, leatherwork and jewellery, alongside creative micro-workshops and independent makers. Many are established craft businesses or self-employed artisans seeking to raise their profile, attract new clients and build professional networks. At the same time, MASS ARTESANÍA functions as an industry meeting point where collaborations are forged and developments in both traditional and contemporary craft practice are brought to light.
The fair attracts culturally minded tourists, collectors of handcrafted goods, retail trade professionals and local residents enjoying the unique atmosphere of Easter week. Its close association with Semana Santa—one of Spain’s most significant and internationally renowned Holy Week celebrations—ensures high visitor numbers and a distinctive ambience. The interplay of religious tradition, historic processions and high-quality craftsmanship gives the event its singular character.
Key features include thematically curated exhibitor zones, live demonstrations of traditional craft techniques and a structured quality assurance process for the works on display.
Located in the heart of Lorca’s old town, Plaza Calderón de la Barca is within walking distance of the main procession routes, major landmarks and a wide range of restaurants and cafés. Lorca is easily accessible via the A-7 motorway, regional bus services and rail connections, with parking available close to the town centre. In this way, MASS ARTESANÍA successfully combines cultural experience, tourism appeal and exceptional craftsmanship—demonstrating that tradition is not merely preserved, but actively practised and continually reinterpreted for the present day.
The MASS ARTESANÍA will take place on 5 days from Wednesday, 01. April to Sunday, 05. April 2026 in Lorca.
