MIO Olten Fair Olten

The MIO – Messe in Olten is the largest and most established public trade fair in the canton of Solothurn. Since its founding in October 1946, it has taken place annually in September. The event is held in the centrally located Bifang district of Olten, where streets such as Bifangstrasse, Engelbergstrasse, and Aarauerstrasse transform into a vibrant hub of regional commerce and cultural exchange during the fair days. The fair is organized by the “Quartierverein rechtes Aareufer Olten” in cooperation with Kein Ding GmbH. The association's mission is to promote the public and cultural interests of the right bank of the Aare River—an aim that becomes visible and tangible through the MIO.

The MIO combines a traditional trade exhibition with a modern meeting place for the wider public. Its defining feature is its diversity: artisan businesses and technology service providers showcase their work side by side. Visitors gain a comprehensive insight into the regional variety of industries—ranging from electronics, vehicles, clothing, and construction materials to health and wellness products, local delicacies, and innovative energy solutions.

The fair offers something for the whole family and appeals to all age groups. Key thematic areas include building, renovation, and housing; energy, sustainability, and technology; health and quality of life; mobility and travel; finance and retirement planning; regional products and gastronomy; as well as education and careers. These topics form the foundation of the event and are complemented each year by a changing theme that adds a fresh focus. Despite its wide thematic scope, the character of the fair remains clearly defined: the MIO is a trade fair with a strong connection to the regional economy.

A special highlight is the MiO Fountain on Bifangplatz, erected in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of the fair. It stands as a symbol of the blend between tradition and future that defines the spirit of the MIO. Free admission and the easily accessible central location make the fair an important meeting point for the public, businesses, and institutions alike.

The MIO is more than just a fair—it is a vibrant expression of regional economic strength, a source of fresh ideas, and a space for connection and inspiration.
