Since its launch in 1994, Sea Japan has become one of Asia’s leading international platforms for the maritime industry. It has evolved into a key meeting point for decision-makers, innovators and technology providers across the entire maritime value chain.
The event is held at the modern Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre in Tokyo and takes place biennially, typically in spring. It is organised by Informa Markets Japan Co., Ltd., an experienced international exhibition organiser with a global network.
The exhibition spans the full breadth of the maritime sector, offering in-depth insights into both current trends and future developments. Core areas include traditional shipbuilding, maritime technologies and the supply industry, complemented by solutions for offshore applications and port infrastructure, as well as specialised ocean technologies. A strong emphasis is placed on digitalisation and automation, including intelligent navigation systems, data-driven platforms and integrated “smart shipping” solutions. Equally important is the advancement of sustainable propulsion technologies, with companies showcasing decarbonisation strategies such as alternative fuels like hydrogen and ammonia, alongside solutions for emissions reduction and improved energy efficiency.
Sea Japan is distinguished by its strong practical focus. The exhibition primarily features market-ready products and services—from ship components and propulsion systems to software and logistics solutions, as well as complex offshore installations and environmental technologies. A high-level conference programme complements the exhibition, bringing together industry leaders, engineers and policymakers to discuss current challenges and develop strategies for the future of global shipping.
Exhibitors represent a wide range of sectors, including shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, energy, IT, logistics and environmental technology. Visitors mainly come from shipping companies, shipyards, port operators, engineering firms, technology companies, as well as research institutions and government bodies. In this way, the exhibition serves as a vital interface between industry, innovation and regulation, while also reinforcing Japan’s position as a leading hub for maritime technologies.
As part of a global portfolio of maritime trade fairs, Sea Japan benefits from international synergies while remaining closely aligned with the Japanese industry, reflecting its strong innovation capacity and high quality standards. The venue, Tokyo Big Sight in the futuristic Odaiba district, provides ideal conditions: excellent public transport links, convenient access to the international airport, and a location within one of the world’s most dynamic metropolitan regions—all of which underscore the exhibition’s international profile and forward-looking character.
The Sea Japan takes place biennially, and therefore for the 17th time previsibly in April 2028 in Tokyo.
