The "Solnhofen Fossil Days" is a significant fair established in 2001, dedicated to the presentation and trade of fossils and minerals. It takes place annually in August in Solnhofen, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Bürgermeister-Müller Museum. The event is organized by the "Friends and Supporters of the Bürgermeister-Müller Museum Solnhofen e.V.". The main themes of the fair are the impressive world of fossils and the enchantment brought on by a diverse range of unique and precious minerals. Visitors can embark on a journey through millions of years as the fair presents rarities and petrified testimonies of long past eras. Select collectors present their treasures in this well-maintained environment and offer a variety of services, from advice to purchase and even expert identification of finds. Solnhofen has a special connection to fossils, being known for the Solnhofen limestone slabs found there, a particular type of rock in which excellently preserved fossils were discovered, including the famous Archaeopteryx. These rocks are witnesses to a lagoon landscape over 150 million years old and have made Solnhofen a center for paleontology. One of the fair's highlights is a raffle where beautiful minerals and fossils can be won. In addition, visitors can look forward to entertainment and dancing. Exhibitors primarily come from the fields of paleontology, mineralogy, geology, and jewelry making. The audience consists of professionals from these industries, hobby collectors, as well as families and school classes who want to be fascinated by the history of our Earth and the wonders of nature. The Solnhofen Fossil Days are more than just a fair; they represent a fascinating journey into the past of our Earth, at a location that is part of this history itself. The Bürgermeister-Müller Museum is centrally located in Solnhofen and is easily accessible both by car and public transport. In addition to the fair, the museum itself also offers a variety of exhibitions and exhibits on the history of the region and the findings of fossils. Immerse yourself in the world of fossils and minerals in Solnhofen!
The Solnhofen Fossil Days (Solnhofener Fossilientage) takes place annually, and therefore for the 21st time previsibly in August 2025 in Solnhofen.
