TANKSTELLE & MITTELSTAND is a specialized trade fair that, since its inception in 1983 by the Einkaufs­gesellschaft freier Tankstellen mbH, has served as a unique platform for professionals from across the fueling station industry. Originally launched as an initiative to foster better networking between independent fuel stations and industry partners, it has since grown into one of the most important showcases for the service station sector in Germany and beyond. The venue, the modern Messe Essen, offers generous exhibition areas, state-of-the-art conference facilities, and a central location in North Rhine-Westphalia—ideal conditions for a trade fair of this scale and focus.

Exclusively open to industry professionals, the event concentrates on the commercial sector and provides a comprehensive overview of products, technologies, services, and emerging trends in the fuel station market. More than just a marketplace, it also acts as a catalyst for innovation and development. Structured into five main thematic areas, the trade fair covers the full spectrum of the industry—from fuel and forecourt operations, shop and convenience solutions, and modern car wash systems to workshop equipment and forward-looking services including financing, insurance, consulting, and vocational training.

An increasing focus is being placed on electromobility, currently featured as a sub-topic within the broader category of fuel and forecourt operations. On the whole the organisers welcomed on the 2 days of the fair, from 14. June to 15. June 2023, about 300 exhibitors and 5600 visitors on the Tankstelle & Mittelstand in Essen.

The Tankstelle & Mittelstand takes place biennially, and therefore for the 23rd time previsibly in May 2027 in Essen.
