Weine vor Freude Bochum

Weine vor Freude is an annual urban wine festival held in Bochum that has been delighting wine enthusiasts, industry professionals, and curious consumers since its inception in 2013. Organized by Weine vor Freude GmbH, the event has become a fixture on the calendar of both the German and international wine scenes. It takes place in the Rotunde Bochum – the former building of Bochum’s old main train station – whose industrial architecture and urban flair create a unique atmosphere and provide the perfect setting for a contemporary celebration of wine.

At the heart of the festival is a modern, approachable way of experiencing wine culture – youthful, open-minded, and grounded in everyday life. Weine vor Freude is not just a showcase for wineries from Germany, France, Spain, and international regions such as Greece or South Africa. It is also a cultural event that blends wine with music, art, design, and cuisine. More than 250 carefully curated wines from over 30 established and emerging winemakers offer insight into the diversity of today’s wine scene, with a special focus on urban wines – those produced in or near metropolitan areas.

The festival has a clear mission: to position wine as part of a conscious, modern lifestyle and to appeal especially to a younger audience. Outdated clichés are intentionally left behind, making wine more accessible as a relaxed and communal experience. Alongside classic tastings, workshops provide in-depth knowledge – from sensory analysis to sustainable consumption. The latter is also promoted through digital formats such as online wine tastings and resource-conscious information offerings.
