Westerwald Mineral Fair Horhausen

The Westerwald Mineral Fair (Westerwälder Mineralienbörse) in Horhausen is a specialized trade and public event that has been held every year since its inception in 1992. The fair is organized by the association Stein-Reich e.V. and offers visitors a fascinating selection of unique mineral specimens, jewelry, and decorative items made from gemstones. It takes place at the Kaplan-Dasbach-Haus, a centrally located and well-equipped event venue in Horhausen.

A particular focus of the fair is on mineral finds from the region, especially those from local mining operations. In recent years, colored fluorite has taken center stage. Fluorite, known for its vibrant colors, is just one of the many highlights presented to visitors from around the world. Colored fluorite has been found in the Westerwald region, particularly in the mines along the Wied and Sieg rivers in the northern part of the Westerwald. These areas were once significant for mining, where, in addition to other minerals like barite and quartz, fluorite was also extracted. The Gosenbach mine near Siegen is especially renowned for its colorful fluorite discoveries, which display a wide range of hues, including violet, green, and yellow. Today, these fluorites are prized collectibles. In addition, exhibitors showcase gemstones and fossils from international locations, facilitating an exciting global exchange.

One of the fair’s main attractions is the so-called "stone cracker", where visitors can split geodes to reveal the crystals hidden inside—an interactive experience that delights both adults and children. Another popular feature is the free mineral stones, which each visitor can choose from a treasure chest, as well as a raffle for added entertainment.

Alongside the exhibition, a comprehensive program of lectures and expert discussions is offered, where specialists share their knowledge and engage with attendees. A cozy cafeteria provides refreshments, offering a relaxed setting for conversations.

With easily accessible parking, such as at the nearby Cardinal-Höffner-Platz in the town center, traveling to the event by car is convenient. The Westerwald Mineral Fair offers a well-rounded experience for collectors, families, and anyone interested in the world of minerals, gemstones, and fossils.

This year the Westerwald Mineral Fair on Sun., 09.11.2025 in Horhausen takes place already for the 31st time.
