bauma is the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles, and equipment. Since its inception in 1954, it has established itself as the central platform for innovation and success in the industry. Held every three years in Munich, the event is organized by Messe München GmbH and brings together key market players, pioneers, and experts. It offers a unique opportunity to discover the latest technologies, machinery, and services in a global context.
Following World War II, the construction industry experienced a significant boom as infrastructure had to be rebuilt and modernized. At the same time, the construction and building materials industries rapidly advanced to meet growing demands for efficiency, performance, and innovation.
The first bauma, initially called the "Construction Machinery Exhibition," took place on Munich’s Theresienhöhe grounds as a national showcase for construction machinery. Even in its early editions, it became evident that demand extended far beyond Germany, leading to the trade fair’s swift internationalization. The event’s success underscored the industry’s need for a central platform to exchange ideas on new technologies, machinery, and construction processes.
With its relocation to the state-of-the-art exhibition grounds of Messe München, bauma has continuously expanded, evolving into the world’s largest trade fair of its kind. Today, it is recognized as the leading global trade fair for construction, building materials, and mining machinery, as well as construction vehicles and equipment. It serves as one of the most important platforms for innovation and networking in the industry.
bauma takes place at Messe München, one of the most modern exhibition centers worldwide. More than just a marketplace for groundbreaking innovations, it is a central meeting point for professionals in the construction, building materials, and mining industries looking to stay informed about the latest technological advancements and market trends.
bauma will set clear industry benchmarks with five forward-looking key themes: achieving climate neutrality as a long-term goal for sustainable construction sites, alternative drive concepts including hydrogen, eFuels, and battery-electric solutions, the digital transformation of construction through connected building processes, sustainable construction methods using recycled materials and circular economy principles, and the Mining Challenge, which focuses on securing raw material supplies while adhering to strict environmental and social standards.
The fair stands out for its remarkable diversity. It is structured into four key areas—construction sites, building material production, mining and raw material processing, and suppliers and services—representing the entire value and process chain of the industry. International exhibitors showcase the latest machinery, innovative technologies, and pioneering solutions that are shaping the future of the construction and mining sectors.
As a driving force for the entire industry, bauma is much more than just a trade fair. It not only serves as a premier platform for business initiation and high-level networking but also sets trends and fosters technological breakthroughs. By bridging expertise with practical application, it facilitates access to international markets and enables companies to establish a global presence. In doing so, bauma remains the central hub for the future of the construction, building materials, and mining machinery industries.
On the whole the organisers welcomed on the 7 days of the fair, from 08. April to 14. April 2019, about 3684 exhibitors from 62 countries and 627603 visitors from 217 countries on the bauma in Munich.
The bauma takes place every three years, and therefore for the 35th time previsibly in April 2028 in Munich.
