BIOEXO Ljubljana

BIOEXO is Slovenia’s most prominent trade fair dedicated to exotic animals – a unique experience for the entire family. Held annually at the centrally located Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Center, the event is organized by Društvo ljubiteljev eksotičnih živali BIOEXO, the Slovenian Association of Exotic Animal Enthusiasts. For many years, the association has been committed to education, animal welfare, and the responsible treatment of exotic species.

The fair offers much more than a traditional animal exhibition. Visitors embark on a fascinating journey into the world of reptiles, amphibians, spiders, scorpions, and tropical insects. Particularly impressive is the diverse range of lizard species – from tiny specimens just a few centimeters long to those reaching nearly two meters. Other highlights include a naturalistic enclosure for Greek tortoises and a water basin with swimming turtles. Upon entering the Kocka Hall, guests are greeted by a vibrant insect display that sets the tone for an extraordinary exhibition experience.

At the heart of BIOEXO is a respectful and informed approach to exotic animals. The fair provides in-depth information on species-appropriate husbandry, legal regulations, and veterinary care. Themed areas such as the “Large Reptile Corner” and the atmospheric “Dark Room” featuring invertebrates create immersive and educational experiences.

A defining feature of BIOEXO is its interactive workshops and science-based educational programs. School classes and kindergarten groups are offered age-appropriate insights into the animal world – both in the classroom and on-site. During the "Meet the Animals" workshops, visitors have the opportunity to touch selected animals under professional supervision. These encounters help reduce fear, foster a connection with nature, and often spark a lifelong interest.

The family-friendly supporting program includes face painting, hands-on stations, photo opportunities with animals, and themed activity zones. The fair also caters to professionals and enthusiasts alike, offering animals from registered breeders (in accordance with strict regulations), terrarium supplies, specialist literature, creative accessories, and plush toys. Exhibitors primarily represent the fields of animal care, zoological retail, biosciences, and education.

BIOEXO attracts a diverse audience – from families and school groups to animal lovers, hobby breeders, educators, and scientists. Each year, it draws visitors not only from across Slovenia but also from neighboring countries, establishing itself as a regionally significant event.
