Terrarium fairs – Appointments from October 2024

Frequently, private individuals are also allowed to exhibit at terrarium or reptile fairs; this blurs the border to the terrarium and reptile exchanges that are widespread and often regionally-oriented in German-speaking countries. The world's largest of these exchanges is the Terraristika in Hamm, which takes place four times a year. Since many animals, e.g. many species of snakes or spiders, are poisonous, and rare and protected animals may not be offered, a whole series of rules and regulations must always be observed at terrarium exhibitions. In particular, species-appropriate husbandry is a principle that animal welfare organizations, some of which are also on site, call for, but in practice, it is probably not always adhered to. Pathogens that may have been introduced by the exhibited animals are also discussed. Terrarium lovers often find information, accessories, or their animals at combined aquaristics and terraristics fairs as well as at pet and zoo article fairs. The largest terraristic event in Austria and thus also one of the largest in Europe is Exotica, which is held at various locations in the country. Aquarium items and exotic plants such as orchids can also be found at these terrarium meet-ups.
