The "Modern Railways" trade fair in Beijing, officially known as the China International Modern Railway Transit Equipment Exhibition, is considered the leading trade event for railway technology and rail transport in China. Since its inception in 1992, it has evolved into the most significant event of its kind in Asia. Held biennially, it attracts international industry visitors, experts, and decision-makers who come together to showcase and explore innovative technologies and developments in rail transport.
The exhibition is organized by the renowned China Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation and the China International Trade Center Co., Ltd., both known for their extensive expertise and excellent international networks within the rail technology sector. Significant support from CHINA RAILWAY further emphasizes the event’s prominence and quality.
The range of topics covered at "Modern Railways" is broad and forward-looking. A key focus is on high-speed trains, new technologies for expanding and modernizing existing rail networks, as well as the introduction of newly developed train models and components. Light rail and metro systems, supported by innovative automation and signaling technologies offering sustainable solutions for urban public transport, also feature prominently.
Another central theme is digitalization and intelligent networking within rail transport. Particular emphasis is placed on artificial intelligence (AI) applications in train control and predictive maintenance systems. Sustainability and energy efficiency are also core subjects, with significant attention given to electric propulsion systems, hydrogen-powered trains, and energy-saving technologies.
Infrastructure is another major area of interest, highlighting solutions in track construction, bridge and tunnel engineering, and safety and surveillance systems. The fair also actively promotes international cooperation, particularly projects linked to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), thereby opening export opportunities for the Chinese rail technology industry.
The venue, the China National Convention Center – National Railway Track Test Center in Beijing, is specifically tailored to the industry's requirements and provides excellent infrastructure, meeting the high standards of the exhibition.
Modern Railways serves as a crucial platform for presenting innovations, fostering business relationships, and facilitating international knowledge exchange. The event is complemented by numerous seminars and conferences that provide in-depth insights into current industry trends and challenges. This combination makes the fair an essential occasion for manufacturers, operators, and regulatory authorities worldwide to explore and actively engage in shaping the latest developments and potentials within the railway sector.
On the whole the organisers welcomed on the 3 days of the fair, from 20. November to 22. November 2019, about 300 exhibitors from 15 countries on the Modern Railways in Beijing.
The Modern Railways will take place on 3 days from Tuesday, 08. July to Thursday, 10. July 2025 in Beijing.
