Wolle-Festival Hattingen is a public exhibition and creative meeting place for anyone with an interest in wool, yarns, knitting, crochet and textile crafts. The event combines shopping opportunities with inspiration, professional exchange and hands-on learning. It is aimed at hobby crafters, experienced creatives, textile artists, designers and enthusiasts of high-quality handmade products. The organisers see the festival as a meeting place for textile artists, craft enthusiasts and influencers.
In Hattingen, Wolle-Festival is held annually at the LWL Museum Henrichshütte. The historic industrial site creates a striking contrast between its heavy-industry heritage and contemporary creative textile crafts. The venue is accessible and provides parking facilities.
The festival is organised by Lorenz GmbH, based in Dessau-Roßlau, through its arts and event management division. According to the company, it has many years of experience in organising festivals and events, with expertise now spanning three generations. The concept focuses on diversity, a welcoming atmosphere, personal interaction and workshops, alongside a carefully balanced selection of exhibitors.
The exhibition focuses on wool and premium yarns, knitting, crochet and a variety of creative textile and handicraft techniques. Products on offer include pure new wool and merino, alpaca, mohair and cashmere yarns, as well as cotton, silk, blended and hand-dyed yarns. The range also includes knitting needles, crochet hooks, circular knitting needles, yarn winders, swifts, scissors, counting frames, patterns and other craft accessories. Handmade items, one-off pieces and creative designer products complement the selection. In this way, the festival provides an alternative to mass-produced goods and gives visitors the opportunity to discover high-quality materials, small-batch products and unique pieces first-hand.
Workshops, demonstrations and direct interaction with exhibitors are a particular highlight. Visitors can watch craftspeople at work, learn about different techniques and how textile products are made, and in some cases take part in workshops themselves. The festival also provides opportunities to exchange ideas with designers, manufacturers and fellow craft enthusiasts, making it easy to discover new patterns, materials, techniques and creative ideas.
Exhibitors mainly represent the yarn and wool trade, textile design, arts and crafts, craft accessories, independent creative makers, and knitting and crochet supplies. According to the organiser, selected exhibitors and designers from across Europe take part, showcasing and selling a wide variety of creative products, ideas and one-of-a-kind pieces. The main audience includes craft and DIY enthusiasts, knitters and crocheters, as well as textile artists, designers, creatives and influencers looking to discover new materials, products and techniques and find fresh inspiration.
Wolle-Festival Hattingen forms part of a nationwide series of events. Lorenz GmbH organises Wolle-Festivals at various locations, regularly bringing the textile craft scene to different regions of Germany. In doing so, the series creates local meeting places for a craft community with connections extending well beyond each individual region.
Combining premium yarns, distinctive accessories, handmade one-off pieces, workshops and personal interaction, Wolle-Festival Hattingen offers a varied insight into the world of contemporary textile crafts. The LWL Museum Henrichshütte provides an exceptional setting, with its historic industrial backdrop giving the festival a distinctive atmosphere. The venue is easily accessible by car and offers parking for visitors.
The Wolle-Festival will take place on 2 days from Saturday, 06. March to Sunday, 07. March 2027 in Hattingen.
