vocatium Jena

The vocatium Jena is a career and education fair held annually in September. It stands out for its unique concept and consistently practice-oriented approach. Organized by the IfT Institute for Talent Development GmbH, which has been dedicated to the individual career and academic orientation of young people since 2008, the fair is part of a nationwide network of over 80 locations that connects thousands of students, university representatives, and exhibitors every year.

The event takes place at the modern Sparkassen-Arena in the southern Jena district of Burgau. With more than 2,600 square meters of exhibition space, the multifunctional hall offers ample room for personal conversations and a wide range of information. Its convenient location near the city center makes it easily accessible by car or public transport.

A distinctive feature of vocatium Jena is its focus on scheduled one-on-one meetings arranged in advance. This “speed-dating with substance” format enables purposeful, well-prepared conversations with HR managers, company trainers, academic advisors, or university professors. Participants gain concrete insights into career paths, dual study programs, traditional academic courses, and internship opportunities. In advance of the event, students select which companies or universities they would like to speak with, and the fair’s organizers coordinate the appointments to ensure an efficient and personal exchange.

The range of topics covered includes traditional vocational training in sectors such as crafts, industry, healthcare, and public administration, as well as dual study programs and academic degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, or state examination level. Exhibitors include numerous regional employers from Thuringia and Central Germany – from industries like optics, photonics, medical technology, and IT – alongside national companies, universities, and public institutions, including federal and state authorities such as the Federal Police.

One of the fair’s unique strengths lies in its thorough preparation and follow-up. Several months prior to the event, the IfT team visits schools in the region to provide students with targeted guidance – including information about exhibitors, tips for productive conversations, and advice on career planning. After the fair, students receive additional support in processing the contacts they’ve made, such as application tips and suggestions for maintaining connections.

vocatium Jena is a specialized, focused, and dialogue-oriented event that prioritizes quality and personal fit over coverage of specific industries. It offers young people not only guidance but genuine opportunities as they take their first steps toward a professional future – on one of the most successful platforms of its kind in Germany.
