The Ingolstadt Christkindlmarkt, an annual highlight in the heart of Bavaria, traditionally opens its gates from the last week of November until December 23rd. This festive event, organized by the city administration and the Cultural Office, attracts visitors from near and far. The Ingolstadt Christkindlmarkt, with some interruptions, has existed since 1570. With over 400 years of history, it is one of the oldest Christmas markets in existence.
Ingolstadt, with its rich history and impressive architecture, provides the perfect setting for this market. The Theaterplatz, centrally located and surrounded by historic buildings like the Old Castle, becomes the stage for the market. This location, along with the picturesque backdrop, gives the market a unique atmosphere.
The market stalls, artfully arranged, stretch across the entire Theaterplatz and offer a variety of handcrafted and culinary treasures. The Ingolstadt Christkindlmarkt is particularly known for its Fairy Tale Trail, the Artisans' Market, the Christmas Train, and the Nativity Trail. Another attraction is the Winter Lounge in the Rothaus Arcades, offering a cozy retreat.
Visitors can look forward to a wide range of traditional delicacies, including regional specialties and warming beverages like mulled wine. These culinary delights, combined with warm hospitality, make the visit an unforgettable experience. With its unique blend of traditional craftsmanship, delicious food and drinks, and the picturesque surroundings, it offers an incomparable Christmas atmosphere that delights year after year.
