The Nörder Christmas, formerly known as Ludgeri Christmas Market, is an annual traditional event during the Advent season that warms the hearts of visitors in the city of Norden. This market is divided into two main areas: the Craftsman Village and the Main Market. The Craftsman Village, located on the street leading to Ludgeri Church, is dedicated to handicrafts and hosts popular artisan stalls. The Main Market at Torfmarkt offers a circuit around the central Christmas tree and is a true experience with its diverse offerings.
The market is organized by the Norden city administration, which is responsible not only for planning and execution but also for a varied stage program. This program includes a festive opening, diverse musical entertainment on after-work evenings, special children's programs, and an early New Year's Eve concert on December 30.
The visitors' culinary needs are well catered for: there are beverage stands and snack stands offering crepes, Berlin pancakes, and almonds. A carousel for children and numerous seating areas provide entertainment and relaxation. A special attraction is the mailbox for Santa Claus, managed by the multi-generational house, creating a bridge between generations.
The city of Norden itself, located near the North Sea coast, offers numerous attractions in addition to the Nörder Christmas. Historically significant buildings like the old town hall or Ludgeri Church and a charming cityscape invite exploration. The region around Norden is characterized mainly by agriculture and tourism. The city has about 27 kilometers of dike line and a ferry port in the district of Norddeich to the offshore islands Juist and Norderney.
In conclusion, the Nörder Christmas is more than just a market – it is an experience that combines tradition, community, and festive joy in the picturesque setting of Norden.
