KUNST MITTE Magdeburg

KUNST/MITTE is the largest and most significant fair for contemporary art in Central Germany. Founded in 2015 by cultural professionals from Magdeburg, its aim is to strengthen the local art scene. The name “KUNST/MITTE” not only refers to its central location in the heart of Germany but also highlights the growing importance of Magdeburg in the region’s cultural life. Once a year, the modern Magdeburg exhibition hall is transformed into a vibrant forum for contemporary art. Artists from Germany and abroad are offered an excellent platform to present and sell their works. The fair is organized by the non-profit association KUNST/MITTE e.V., which is dedicated to promoting regional artists and building sustainable networks between artists, galleries, collectors, and an art-interested public.

The profile of the fair is characterized by its remarkable diversity. Alongside classic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, and photography, a special focus is placed on innovative forms of expression, including digital media, interactive installations, and urban art. In this way, KUNST/MITTE offers a wide spectrum that encompasses both established artists and emerging talents. Young artists are supported and made visible through the specially created “Young Artist Space” (YAS) as well as through the endowed YAS and YO Awards. A varied supporting program with guided tours, live performances, collector dinners, and award ceremonies invites exchange and turns the fair into a special art experience.

A distinctive feature of KUNST/MITTE is its strong regional connection. By actively networking the art scenes of Magdeburg, Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig, the fair fosters artistic dialogue in Central Germany while also opening doors to the international art market. In addition to artworks, services related to art are also presented—ranging from consulting for collectors and galleries to educational offerings for schools, cultural institutions, and businesses. Exhibitors include individual artists, galleries, collectors, cultural initiatives, and art institutions, all of whom use the fair as a central platform for presentation and exchange.
