The Mannheim May Market is Germany’s largest regional trade fair and one of the country’s most historic events of its kind. Established in 1613, when Elector Palatine Johann II of Zweibrücken granted the city of Mannheim the right to hold a market, the May Market has grown from a simple horse market into a modern, diverse consumer fair deeply rooted in the region’s identity. Every year in May, the fairgrounds next to the equestrian stadium transform for eleven days into a bustling hub, attracting over 1,400 exhibitors and around 350,000 visitors from the local area and beyond.
The event is organized by Mannheimer Ausstellungs-GmbH (MAG), an experienced event management company specializing in large-scale public events. The focus is not just on product sales, but on showcasing innovations, trends, and services across nearly every aspect of daily life – including crafts, commerce, agriculture, tourism, health, education, politics, and leisure. This thematic diversity is what sets the May Market apart: it’s not a trade-only fair, but a public-oriented platform rich in experiences.
Visitors can explore a wide range of offerings – from innovative solutions for building, renovating, and gardening, to the latest trends in fashion and beauty, household and kitchen products, as well as diverse options for leisure and travel. Students and young professionals also benefit from extensive educational and career information. Special exhibitions on changing socially relevant topics feature live demonstrations and interactive activities that invite curiosity and participation.
Beyond the extensive exhibition space, the May Market also impresses with a vibrant supporting program: live performances, music acts, and regional culinary specialties offer entertainment and enjoyment for all ages. A particular highlight for families is the animal exhibition, featuring agricultural displays that offer authentic insights into regional livestock farming and rural life.
More than just a marketplace, the Mannheim May Market is a place for people to connect, learn, and experience. With its unique blend of market, exhibition, and event, it reflects the economic, cultural, and social life of Baden-Württemberg and has become a fixture in the regional event calendar – a meeting point for generations, year after year.
The Maimarkt in Mannheim took place from Saturday, 26. April to Tuesday, 06. May 2025.
