Münchner Buchmesse Munich

14. November 2026 | Public and trade fair for literature, publishing, self-publishing, book trends, and pop culture | regional Fair

The Munich Book Fair (Münchner Buchmesse) is a public and trade event dedicated to books, literature, publishing and contemporary book culture. It takes place at the MTC world of fashion in Munich. With around 8,000 square metres of exhibition space, the fair brings together authors, publishers, self-published authors, service providers and a book-loving audience. Held annually, it aims to establish itself as a key meeting place for the book and creative industries in the Bavarian capital.

The fair is organised by Zellner & Zeh Buchmesse GbR under the direction of Ann-Katrin Zellner and Stefan Zeh, both of whom are crime fiction authors. Its concept reflects the diversity of the book market, offering independent authors, indie publishers and self-published authors in particular an opportunity to present their work directly to a broad audience. The Munich Book Fair combines the traditional elements of a literary fair with current developments in publishing, contemporary marketing approaches and emerging trends within the book community.

The programme covers fiction as well as children’s and young adult literature, alongside a wide range of popular genres including romance, dark romance, romantasy, fantasy, high fantasy, thrillers, crime fiction, horror, science fiction, dystopian fiction and historical fiction. Asian pop culture is another key focus, with manga, danmei, anime and K-pop featuring prominently. The fair also places considerable emphasis on self-publishing and book publication. Topics such as print-on-demand, traditional print runs, publishing opportunities through platforms such as Tolino, and the opportunities, costs and risks associated with independent publishing make the event relevant to both aspiring and established authors. Other areas of focus include social media and book marketing, particularly BookTok, author branding, online discoverability, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in the creative industries.

The Munich Book Fair primarily showcases books, new releases and special editions, complemented by products and services relating to publishing, book design, marketing and author services. Workshops on plotting and writing, as well as the visual design of books, covers and sprayed edges, provide practical guidance and expertise. The event therefore serves not only as a marketplace and showcase for books, but also as a forum for professional development, networking and direct exchange between writers, publishers, service providers, book bloggers and readers. Visitors can discover and purchase books on site, with many titles also available to be signed by the authors in attendance.

The programme features a wide range of readings, book launches, signing sessions, workshops, talks, panel discussions, debates and poetry slams. These events give visitors the opportunity to meet authors in person, learn about current developments in the industry, and discover new books and genres.

Exhibitors come predominantly from the book, publishing, media, creative and literary sectors. They include authors, self-published writers, independent and smaller publishing houses, as well as providers of products and services related to books and book marketing. The Munich Book Fair caters to both trade visitors from bookselling, publishing, media and marketing and the general public. Its audience includes readers and book enthusiasts, aspiring authors, bloggers, BookTok creators and other social media content creators, as well as fans of fantasy, romantasy, manga, anime and related areas of pop culture.

Combining a book fair, an author platform, an industry gathering and a pop culture event, the Munich Book Fair provides a meeting place for anyone interested not only in reading books but also in how they are written, published, designed and marketed. The MTC world of fashion is easily accessible by both public transport and car. From Munich Central Station, visitors can take the U2 underground line towards Feldmoching and alight at Frankfurter Ring, from where the venue is approximately a 13-minute walk. Around 600 free parking spaces are available on site for visitors travelling by car.

The first edition and therefore the premiere of the Münchner Buchmesse takes place on Sat., 14.11.2026 in Munich.
