The “SCHWEISSEN” trade fair has, since its launch in 2015, established itself as a leading platform in Austria for joining, cutting and surface engineering technologies. It is now widely recognised as a key industry meeting point across the German-speaking region.
The event is organised by Austrian Exhibition Experts GmbH, one of Austria’s principal exhibition organisers, known for delivering highly practical trade and public fairs. Held every two years at Messe Wels, “SCHWEISSEN” attracts industry professionals not only from across Austria but also from Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and neighbouring countries. As such, it serves not only as a national flagship event but also as an important hub for international technology transfer within Central Europe.
The exhibition covers a broad range of relevant topics. Its core focus lies on welding, brazing and bonding processes, alongside cutting technologies such as laser, plasma and waterjet cutting. These are complemented by solutions in surface treatment and coating technologies. Automation is becoming increasingly prominent, with industrial robots, digitally networked production systems and computer-aided manufacturing solutions demonstrating how efficiency and quality can be enhanced in practice. Other key areas include materials, consumables and filler materials, as well as quality assurance, metrology and testing technologies, particularly in the field of non-destructive testing.
“SCHWEISSEN” stands out for its strong practical orientation. Visitors gain insight into products such as welding and cutting equipment, robotic systems, protective gear and extraction systems, as well as specialised software for CAD/CAM, simulation and process monitoring. Engineering and consultancy services are also showcased. Together, this provides professionals with tangible solutions to real-world operational challenges. Additional focus areas include occupational safety, ergonomic workplace design, and contributions from research, training and industry networks, all of which support knowledge transfer and skills development.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is its hands-on live demonstrations, where innovative processes are presented under real operating conditions. Technical presentations, special exhibitions and industry forums offer further value by highlighting current trends, particularly in digitalisation, automation and sustainable manufacturing.
Exhibitors represent a wide industrial spectrum, including mechanical and plant engineering, metalworking, automotive manufacturing, construction and energy technology, as well as specialised suppliers and service providers. The professional audience includes welding specialists, engineers, production managers, buyers, trainers and decision-makers from both industry and skilled trades. They attend to explore new technologies, prepare investment decisions and establish valuable business contacts.
Messe Wels offers modern infrastructure, spacious exhibition halls, flexible conference facilities and efficient visitor logistics. Its central location ensures convenient access both by road via the Westautobahn and by rail. A wide range of nearby hotels and dining options further enhances the visitor experience, creating ideal conditions for a productive and engaging trade fair visit.
The SCHWEISSEN takes place biennially, and therefore for the fourth time previsibly in April 2028 in Wels.
