Barista service personnel for trade fairs, meetings, conferences, and congresses

A barista is a professional who specializes in the expert preparation and service of coffee beverages. The term "barista" comes from Italian, meaning "barkeeper." While in Italy any barkeeper is referred to as a barista, in English-speaking and now also in German-speaking areas, the term specifically applies to someone who is particularly skilled in making specialty coffee drinks like Latte Macchiato. A barista is responsible for the expert preparation of coffee using an espresso machine. This includes not only practical skills in operating the machine and preparing various coffee drinks but also extensive knowledge about coffee beans, their origin, roasting processes, and the related flavor profiles. A good barista is also familiar with maintaining the espresso machine and taking care of their barista tools. An important part of a barista's job is the ability to create Latte Art – intricate designs in the milk foam of coffee drinks that require both technical skill and artistic sensibility. To become a barista, numerous institutes offer seminars, courses, as well as advanced and continuing education opportunities. A prominent example is the Coffee Diploma System of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), which provides a standardized and internationally recognized training divided into different levels, completed through theoretical and practical exams.
