At the medieval Christmas market at Wilhelmsburg Castle in Schmalkalden, there are numerous stalls with traditional crafts, such as beekeeping, pottery, soap making, leather making, jewelry making, pewter foundry or bookbinding, and invite you to marvel or buy.
The culinary offerings are also legendary: delicious blueberry mulled wine, hot apple juice with or without a shot, wonderful fruit brandies, potato pancakes, heavenly garlic bread and of course bratwurst. On the two Saturdays of Advent there will be a fire show at 7 p.m. that no one should miss.
The medieval club "Authentica Castrum Walinfels" with its army camp and fairytale tent brings the Middle Ages back to life. Two groups dedicated to playing medieval music provide the setting to match the ambience: Viesematente and Rebula. With shawms, flutes, bag whistles, drumming and even other coarse noises They go through the land and delight the ears of one and terrify the ears of others.
The absolute highlight are the sword fights based on the Codex Belli. Here the knights shine not only with their fighting technique, but also with their humor. Gabriel the fire artist offers a fire show for young and old. St. Nicholas will also pay a visit to the market. Children and adults should prepare a suitable poem or song.
Although the colorful market hustle and bustle is really varied, there is even more on offer to visitors. He can visit the entire castle with the beautiful ballrooms and the uniquely beautiful castle chapel, the permanent exhibition with a focus on: Reformation, Schmalkaldic League and the special exhibitions.
