ARTMUC Munich

ARTMUC is an international contemporary art fair founded in 2014 and is now regarded as Bavaria’s largest hybrid art fair. Open to the general public, the fair takes place at MTC Locations, formerly MTC World of Fashion, at Ingolstädter Straße 45–47 in northern Munich. One of ARTMUC’s distinctive features is its schedule: according to the organiser, it is the only art fair in Germany to be held twice a year, with editions in spring and autumn. Each edition presents up to 170 international contemporary art positions.

ARTMUC is organised by Munich-based Intoxicated Demons GmbH. Firmly rooted in Munich, the fair helps establish the city as a meeting place for independent, established and emerging artists, as well as galleries, collectors and art enthusiasts.

ARTMUC focuses on contemporary art across a wide range of media. The works on display span painting, photography and illustration, as well as sculpture, textile art, collage and mixed media. The programme also encompasses digital art, multimedia art, performance and new media, with new technologies and digital forms of artistic expression playing an increasingly prominent role. The offering is complemented by a Functional Art & Design section exploring the relationship between art, design and their application in everyday life. In this way, the fair not only showcases established art forms but also reflects current developments at the intersection of art, design and digital technology.

ARTMUC’s diverse exhibitor profile distinguishes it from art fairs primarily centred on established galleries. Exhibitors include individual artists, galleries, art projects, associations, foundations and other organisations and professionals from the arts and creative industries. One of the fair’s key aims is to provide independent and emerging artists in particular with a professional yet comparatively accessible platform on which to present their work. Participants are selected by a jury through an application process. Many of the works on display can be purchased directly at the fair, giving visitors the opportunity to engage with artists in person and acquire artworks without going through the traditional gallery system.

ARTMUC caters both to private art enthusiasts and buyers and to collectors, gallerists, artists, representatives of art projects and the creative industries, as well as other art market professionals. A particular benefit for visitors is the opportunity to engage directly with exhibiting artists and galleries. At the same time, the fair provides an opportunity to explore a broad cross-section of current international contemporary art in a single visit and to purchase works directly from exhibitors.

Distinctive features of ARTMUC include its curated selection of international artists and works, changing special projects, dedicated spaces for emerging talent and international collaborations. This combination brings together established and new artistic approaches while providing a platform for diverse forms of contemporary artistic expression.

By combining international contemporary art with direct access to artists, galleries and art projects, and by staging two editions each year, ARTMUC provides a concise overview of current developments in the art market. Its venue also contributes to the fair’s accessibility. MTC Locations at Ingolstädter Straße 45–47, 80807 Munich, offers more than 1,000 parking spaces and is well served by public transport. The venue is around a seven-minute walk from Frankfurter Ring underground station (U2), while bus routes 140, 141 and 177 stop at Ingolstädter Straße, close to the venue. ARTMUC therefore combines a well-connected Munich location with a fair concept designed to make contemporary art directly accessible to a broad audience.
