The Christmas Market in Sommerhausen, established in 1984, is an annual, traditional event celebrated on the first three Advent weekends on Saturdays and Sundays. In 2023, due to Christmas Eve falling on the fourth Advent, the market will only take place on the first three weekends. This market, located in the historic old town of Sommerhausen along the main street up to the church square, is unique for its selection of crafts and artists..

The craftsmen and artists are carefully selected and display their works in courtyards, houses, vaulted cellars, as well as in studios and galleries. This gives the market a special atmosphere, complemented by a few stalls near the church. The historical old town itself, with its narrow streets, towers, and timbered houses, provides a perfect backdrop and emphasizes the artistic flair of the market.

The market is organized by the Cultural and Heritage Association e.V. of Sommerhausen, which is responsible not only for organizing the market but also for the cultural offerings surrounding it. Visitors can look forward to church concerts and theater performances at the Torturmtheater, contributing to the pre-Christmas mood. Additionally, there are Christmas-themed tours through the market community. A special attraction is Saint Nicholas with his little angel, who wanders through the market's alleys distributing small gifts. He also opens a door of the Advent calendar every Advent Saturday and Sunday at 4 PM and reads from his golden book.
