LEBEN UND TOD Bremen

The LEBEN UND TOD fair in Bremen is a unique event in Germany, held annually since its inception in 2009. It combines a professional conference with a public exhibition in a powerful format and has become a well-established event in the German-speaking world. Organized by Ahorn Kultur GmbH, the fair focuses on fundamental themes such as life, dying, death, grief, and end-of-life planning.

It is aimed at both professionals from the fields of funeral services, hospice and palliative care, grief counseling, and nursing, as well as at interested members of the public who seek guidance, knowledge, and dialogue.

The venue is Messe Bremen – a modern event center in the heart of the Hanseatic city, offering excellent infrastructure and accessibility. Its central location ensures easy access for exhibitors and visitors from across the German-speaking region.

With a clear societal focus, the fair addresses the challenges of demographic change. Through lectures, workshops, and panel discussions, it explores topics such as aging, caregiving, estate planning, advance healthcare directives, and funeral culture. Emphasis is placed both on current societal developments and on individual life experiences – such as coping with grief, accessing palliative care, or maintaining autonomy until the end of life.

Each year, a new thematic focus adds depth to the program. Under the current motto, "In the end... are we all the same?", the fair highlights the diversity of personal paths through life and grief. At the same time, it draws attention to structural barriers many people face at the end of life – including discrimination, limited access to support services, or cultural obstacles.

A distinctive feature of LEBEN UND TOD is its integrative approach. In addition to expert content, it offers a diverse exhibition of products and services related to end-of-life planning, funerals, care, and grief support. Artistic and cultural contributions complement the program, presenting the topic of death in sensitive and often unexpected ways. This interdisciplinary approach creates space for information, connection, contemplation, and personal reflection.

The LEBEN UND TOD will take place on 2 days from Friday, 16. May to Saturday, 17. May 2025 in Bremen.
