RetroCon Saar Völklingen

The RetroCon Saar, held at the Hermann Neuberger Hall in Völklingen, is a retro convention that takes place twice a year. Since 2024, it has expanded into a two-day event with changing themes. In recent years, past events have featured themes such as "Mystery & Supernatural", "Pirates & Oceans", or "Action & Adventure".

Depending on the theme, visitors to RetroCon Saar can expect a wide variety of exhibits from numerous vendors, offering games, consoles, movies, toys and action figures, comics, music and soundtracks, trading cards, and much more. In addition to talks, workshops, readings, and panel discussions, there are plenty of opportunities to try out both digital and analog games. Other highlights of RetroSaar include fan favorites like the big nerdy prize raffle, the RetroLounge with a wide selection of retro console games and home computers, the Creative Zone featuring game developers, new releases, art, and community projects, as well as the Photo Corner.

The Hermann Neuberger Hall is centrally located in the Saarland city of Völklingen, close to the city center and right next to the Hermann Neuberger Sports School. It’s easily accessible by car or public transport. From Völklingen train station, it's just a short bus ride or a quick walk away. Völklingen is a city in Saarland with around 38,000 residents, located in the greater Saarbrücken metropolitan area, right on the border with France. The city is especially known for its industrial heritage and its globally unique UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Völklinger Hütte. This former ironworks is the city’s landmark and is considered one of the most important industrial monuments in Europe. Today, it’s a vibrant cultural center, regularly hosting art exhibitions, concerts, tours, and events.

RetroCon Saar is organized by Next Heroes Events, based in Saarbrücken. In addition to RetroCon Saar, they also run the Weihnerdsmarkt in Völklingen, Hirocon at E WERK in Saarbrücken, and the Vegan Fantasy Fair in the Schlosspark Geislautern in Völklingen.

The RetroCon Saar takes place half-yearly, and therefore for the fifteenth time previsibly in October 2025 in Völklingen.
